GTA 6 takes place in Leonida — Rockstar's Florida — with six distinct regions and a Vice City twice the size of Los Santos. Here's every confirmed location and what we know about the map.
Leonida. The fictional state of Leonida — [Rockstar](https://www.rockstargames.com/VI's take on Florida — with a rebuilt, modern-day Vice City at its center. It's the series' first return to Vice City since GTA: Vice City Stories back in 2006, which is honestly staggering to think about. The map spans six confirmed regions, running from tropical keys to swamplands to mountain parks.
All of this is confirmed: the Leonida setting, the six region names, Vice City as the centerpiece. The size figures further down are a different story — those are reported and estimated, and we'll be clear about which is which.
Rockstar hasn't published official dimensions. What we have are scale claims from two senior developers in interviews. Aaron Garbut, Rockstar's art co-president, says Leonida is roughly twice the size of the GTA 5 map. Rob Nelson at Rockstar North goes further: Vice City alone is about 2x GTA 5's Los Santos, and the developed areas outside the city are roughly 11x the developed space outside Los Santos.
Fans and outlets have done the arithmetic and landed on around 160 square kilometers for Leonida, versus about 80 for GTA 5 and 75 for Red Dead Redemption 2. But treat every square-kilometer figure as an estimate, not confirmed data. There is no official number.
Honestly, raw size matters less than density here. Rockstar keeps emphasizing more enterable interiors than any previous GTA, plus deliberately unmarked discoveries — no objectives, no blips, no icons — that reward just wandering around. It's very much in the RDR2 spirit, and that's the part that has us most excited.
| Region | Key Features | |--------|-------------| | Vice City | Main city, beaches, nightlife | | Leonida Keys | Island chain, marinas, smuggling routes | | Port Gellhorn | Industrial port area | | Ambrosia | Rural, industrial | | Mount Kalaga | Mountainous, wilderness | | Grassrivers | Wetlands, Everglades-inspired |

The Miami-inspired urban core and the game's centerpiece. Neon-soaked beachfront, downtown skylines, nightlife districts, and the criminal heart of Leonida. Per Nelson, Vice City alone is roughly twice the size of GTA 5's Los Santos — let that sink in.

A tropical archipelago — Florida Keys by way of Rockstar — with islands stitched together by bridges. Jason grew up here among small-time grifters, and Brian Heder's smuggling operation is based here. Boats, seaplanes, island-hopping. Expect the Keys to be where the game's maritime side really shines.
Seen in: Trailer 2 (Jason's backstory).
Everglades-style swamps and wetlands — airboats, alligators, remote hideouts. If you remember the alligator-in-a-convenience-store shot from Trailer 1, that's pure Grassrivers energy.
Seen in: Trailer 1, Trailer 2.
A faded west-coast tourist and dock town — crime-infested, weathered, past its prime. Docks, warehouses, and the kind of place where deals go wrong. This one carries some real Vice City 2002 energy, and we mean that as a compliment.
The industrial center beside Lake Leonida — factories, breweries, sugar-farming towns. Blue-collar Leonida, about as far from the Vice City glitz as you can get.
Seen in: Trailer 2.
Forests, rivers, and mountains on Leonida's northern border — confirmed for off-road racing, and home to some affluent neighborhoods. The wilderness playground.

There's no magic fast-travel button, so get comfortable with Leonida's transit options:
We already have opinions about which NPCs we're going to get trapped with.
Rockstar wants you to actually explore, and the map is designed around that idea. The full map opens shortly after the intro rather than being gated by story progress. The pause-menu map has a satellite style. Unmarked discoveries carry no objectives, blips, or icons — exploring is rewarded for its own sake. And cityscapes change as the story progresses, which is a quietly huge feature. The Leonida you start in won't be the one you finish in.
Rockstar promises more enterable interiors than any previous GTA — a direct answer to one of the fandom's longest-running requests. After years of beautiful but sealed storefronts, this is the one that has us smiling.

One important note: every size comparison here comes from developer interview claims and outlet estimates — not official Rockstar dimensions. Read all of them as approximations.
The fictional state of Leonida — Rockstar's Florida — with a modern-day Vice City at its heart.
Roughly twice the size of GTA 5's map, per Rockstar's Aaron Garbut. But that's a reported figure — no official dimensions exist.
Six of them, all confirmed: Vice City, the Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia, and Mount Kalaga National Park.
Per Rockstar North's Rob Nelson, yes — Vice City alone is roughly twice GTA 5's Los Santos.
No universal fast travel. Instead you've got buses, trains, light rail, taxis, and the RydeMe ride-hailing app.
Shortly after the intro, from what Rockstar has said. The map isn't gated by story progress.
Cal Hampton is one of GTA 6's most distinctive supporting characters: Jason's paranoid friend, Brian Heder's associate and a man who would rather monitor Coast Guard radio from home than chase a bigger score. Here is what Rockstar actually confirms, plus the theories that should stay labelled as theories.
