GTA 6 features dual protagonists Lucia Caminos and Jason Duval plus six officially profiled supporting characters. Here's every confirmed character, their backstory, and how they connect.
Who Are the GTA 6 Protagonists?
Two leads. One crime story. GTA 6 stars Lucia Caminos and Jason Duval — romantic and criminal partners in what [Rockstar](https://www.rockstargames.com/VI is clearly shaping into a Bonnie-and-Clyde-style saga across the state of Leonida. Lucia is the first woman to headline a mainline GTA game, and if you've been following this series for years like we have, that still feels like a genuinely big moment. Their full names didn't arrive until Trailer 2 in May 2025, and Rockstar's official site now profiles eight characters in total.
Everything below is confirmed — Rockstar profiled all eight through its official site (the "Only in Leonida" section) and the trailers, so what you're reading comes from the source, not unconfirmed report.
Lucia Caminos — Protagonist
Role: Dual protagonist | First appearance: Trailer 1 (Dec 2023)
Lucia opens Trailer 1 in an orange jumpsuit inside Leonida Penitentiary, telling an evaluator she's behind bars because of "bad luck, I guess." Trailer 2 finds her walking free — with Jason waiting outside. Honestly, that shot gave us chills the first time.
Her backstory, all confirmed: her father taught her to fight from the time she could walk; fighting for her family landed her in Leonida Penitentiary; she gets out on parole wearing an ankle monitor, which Rockstar says will play a major story role; her mother dreamed of the good life since their days in Liberty City. "Sheer luck got her out," the official site says — and Lucia is committed to her plan, no matter what it takes.
She's fierce, disciplined, and driven — the strategic core of the duo. We keep coming back to that word, strategic. Jason runs on instinct; Lucia runs on plans.
Jason Duval — Protagonist
Role: Dual protagonist | First appearance: Trailer 1 (unnamed); named in Trailer 2
Jason is introduced fixing roof leaks on a run-down house — and yes, the "just fixing some leaks" line is Rockstar's deliberate wink at the September 2022 source-code hack. Of course it is. Only Rockstar would turn the biggest leak in its history into a throwaway joke.
His backstory: he grew up around small-time grifters in the Leonida Keys, escaped that life through a stint in the Army, and now runs jobs for local drug runners while working for Brian Heder. He wants an easy life and keeps getting pulled back into crime instead. The trailers show him working out, running errands, and doing collection jobs for Brian — he's the grounded, working-class half of the duo, and we think he's going to surprise people.
For their story, see our Trailer 2 Breakdown. Learn how they play in our Dual Protagonist Mechanics.
Jason & Lucia: The Relationship
Rockstar's official synopsis: after an "easy score" goes wrong, the pair ends up "on the darkest side of the sunniest place in America," caught in a criminal conspiracy stretching across Leonida — forced to rely on each other to survive.
Here's the thing, though: the romance is optional. Rockstar confirmed that players choose how deep it goes, and it gives no direct gameplay advantage. But it does affect the story. Ignore your partner's messages and the relationship weakens; pull off duo robberies or take them on dates and the bond strengthens.
This is the emotional core of GTA 6. Trust as a gameplay system. If it works the way Rockstar says it does, this could be the most interesting thing the series has ever attempted.

Supporting Cast (All Confirmed)
Cal Hampton
Jason's buddy — a conspiracy-obsessed loner who brings the comic relief and, presumably, terrible advice. Every GTA needs one of these, and Cal looks like ours.
Boobie Ike
A street-smart business entrepreneur running the Only Raw Records music label — a genuine player in Leonida's music scene, and the client for the drug-pickup mission shown in the Netflix Extended Look.
Dre'Quan Priest
A driven music producer and mogul operating in Boobie's orbit.
Real Dimez — Bae-Luxe & Roxy
A rap duo and social-media sensations signed to Only Raw Records. They embody Leonida's influencer culture — satirical catnip for GTA. This pairing has some of our favorite trailer moments so far.
Raul Bautista
A seasoned bank robber who brings Jason and Lucia in on high-stakes jobs, including the bank getaway shown in the Extended Look. Heads up: some outlets spell his name "Batista."
Brian Heder
Jason's boss — a landlord and veteran drug smuggler working the Leonida Keys. He sends Jason out on collection runs. Actor Stephen Root confirmed a voice role in GTA VI, and several outlets identify his character as Brian Heder — but Root never named the character himself, so for now treat that linkage as reported, not confirmed. We'll update this page the moment it hardens either way.
Minor & Unconfirmed Characters
- "Stefanie" — Lucia's corrections counselor from Trailer 1, identified by fans reading her nameplate. Unconfirmed — this one's pure fan detective work, not official. We're keeping it here because the nameplate zoom actually looks convincing, but take it with a grain of salt.
